Police are investigating a fatal after a driver struck her after she jumped from the car she was riding in Sunday morning. Police said Abbra Johnson, 37, was originally a passenger in white Infiniti that hit her but jumped out because two men, at least one of whom was firing a gun, were approaching the car.

Fatal 6-car hit-and-run crash on Easter

Police are investigating a fatal six-car accident in Philadelphia in the city’s Bustleton section. It happened just before midnight Sunday on Red Lion Road and Bustleton Avenue. Police said a driver who was traveling at a high speed down Red Lion Road hit two vehicles that were waiting to turn north on Bustleton Avenue.

Those two cars then collided with three other vehicles. One of the cars involved flipped over killing a man and a woman who were inside. Three adults, including a pregnant woman, and two children were taken to the hospital.

4 injured after two-car crash in Somerton

Wednesday night a Philadelphia car accident took place that left four people injured. The two-car crash around 7:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Woodhaven Road near Evans Street in Somerton.

Police say a 16-year-old driver with two 15-year-old passengers hit a car driven by a 42-year-old man. All four are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Driver Intentionally Strikes 6 People In North Philly

Scary news today from North Philly. Six people were injured after a driver intentionally ran them over in North Philadelphia, police said. It happened around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday at 16th Street and Lehigh Avenue.

Police said they received a 911 call about a 44-year-old man trying to hit people with his gray Buick Century following an altercation. According to police, six people ranging in ages from 17 to 42 years old were hurt in the incident. Two people were transported to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. The conditions of the four other victims are unknown at this time. The driver was arrested and placed in custody at Hahnemann University Hospital.

A Philadelphia car accident happened when a Drexel University police vehicle crashed in the Powelton Village section of Philadelphia The crash was reported just before 10 a.m. at 33rd street and Powelton Avenue on Sunday. The front of the university police vehicle was damaged but no injuries were reported.

Fatal Car Accident Along Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension

On Wednesday morning a fatal car accident happened when a white BMW sedan ran off the side of Interstate 476. The white BMW sedan could be seen on its side up a steep embankment along I-476 near milepost 39 in West Rockhill Township between the Lansdale (Exit 31) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges around daybreak.

Pennsylvania State Police said they didn’t know how the 22-year-old driver wound up crashing his car high up on the embankment around 4:30 a.m. There did appear to be tire tracks coming from the highway, however.

Tesla Car Accident Garners News Headlines

On March 1st, a driver in Delray Beach, Florida lost his life during an accident involving his Tesla 3 Model vehicle. NBC News reported 50-year old Jeremy Beren Banner drove south along U.S. 441 South in Palm Beach County when he collided with a tractor trailer rig. Tesla, Inc. cautions its customers not to use the autopilot function as a substitute for alert driving, and the company urges them to keep their hands on the wheel while operating the vehicle.

It appears the accident occurred when the truck driver undertook a left turn to cross U.S. 441 South and access Florida State Road 7. The truck passed directly in front of the oncoming Tesla vehicle, which failed to stop. Mr. Banner’s Tesla Model 3 passed directly beneath the trailer and then traveled another 0.3 miles before coming to a halt. Mr. Banner died at the scene.

Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) and the National Transportation Safety Board (“NTSB”) have assigned investigators to study the most recent accident. The investigation of the 2016 collision reportedly prompted the NTSB to issue findings critical of the extent to which the automated Autopilot feature may have allowed the driver to rely so extensively upon the vehicle. However, these findings fell short of faulting the Autopilot as a cause of the accident. Additionally, the NHTSA during January, 2017, also indicated it found no reason to consider the Autopilot defective.

An Accident in March, 2018

In another recent accident currently still under review, investigators seek to determine whether or not a driver had engaged the Autopilot feature on a Tesla vehicle. Walter Huang died when his Tesla Model X ran into a concrete highway divider in Mountain View, California while traveling at a high speed. Initial reports indicated the driver had activated the Autopilot. The vehicle burst into flames following the crash.

The manufacturer attributed the severity of the collision to previous damage to automotive components designed to attenuate accidents. Whether or not the driver had previously complained about the Autopilot’s performance to the dealership remains disputed. The manufacturer reported the driver received warnings from the vehicle but had not touched the wheel during the 6 seconds immediately prior to the accident. NTSB investigators sought to review both Autopilot and battery fire containment issues.

Four Other Recent Accidents

Today, extensive investigations occur at the federal level following auto accidents. The NHTSA and NTSB hope to obtain information from roadway mishaps which may assist automakers in designing safer vehicles. May, 2018 in Utah: A crash occurred while the vehicle was traveling on Autopilot.
May 2018 in Florida: Two fatalities occurred during a crash in which the vehicle was not in Autopilot mode.

Woman seriously injured after vehicle hit by SEPTA train in Lansdowne

A Philadelphia car accident took place Monday morning when an SUV was hit by a SEPTA train. The harrowing scene near Union Avenue was captured on nearby business surveillance cameras. SEPTA officials say the train was moving at about 50 mph headed into Philadelphia. Authorities say the driver never should have been on the tracks as the gates at the crossing were already down from a previous passing train.

“If cars are struck by trains… they could derail the train, and if that were the case then we’d have a lot different situation to be talking about today,” said Jim Fox, SEPTA’s assistant general manager for system safety.

Two Injured in Car Accident on Martins Creek Belvidere Highway

A Philadelphia area car accident happened on Tuesday afternoon. Police reported that two people were injured in a serious car accident that took place on a local highway. The accident took place on Martins Creek Belvidere Highway, near the area of Gravel Hill Road. The two vehicles involved rolled over immediately after the collision, one on the side of the road and another in a field. Police claim that one of the drivers did not have his seat belt on and was ejected from the vehicle. He had serious injuries and was flown to the hospital. The other driver had to be extricated from her vehicle and was hospitalized as well.
