Sexual abuse is incredibly traumatic, and the physical, emotional, and psychological impact that it leaves on the individual is devastating. According to RAINN, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, sexual abuse occurs every 68 seconds in the United States. There is no excuse for these heinous incidents, and every victim deserves top care and legal representation for their case. It is also extremely disheartening that many organizations fail to protect victims from the abuse and even take shocking measures to cover up the abuse after it has occurred. Reach out to a sexual abuse lawyer.
Sexual abuse can happen anywhere, from schools, corporate workplaces, youth-based institutions, or your local religious organization. At TopDog Law, we are committed to standing up to these organizations and holding them accountable for their actions. Through our national network of qualified attorneys, we can connect you with a local lawyer who can handle your case and help you get the compensation and justice you deserve.
It costs absolutely nothing to see if you have a case
The prevalence of sexual abuse in our society is jarring. On average, 463,634 victims aged 12 or older are sexually abused every year. For children under 18, 1 in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys have experienced sexual abuse. Far too often, sexual abuse cases occur within businesses or institutions that have the resources to prevent the abuse from occurring in the first place.
Many victims do not report their abuse, for they often fear negative reactions from loved ones or retaliation from the abusers themselves. Victims deserve the utmost compassion when they do decide to come forward. Our legal network of sexual abuse attorneys is prepared to treat your sexual abuse case with the sensitivity and discretion it deserves, ensuring that your privacy and rights are always protected while they seek justice for your losses.
We are actively representing a shocking case against the Devereux Foundation and its affiliated organizations for its heinous crimes against children at Devereux facilities across the Philadelphia Main Line. These cases involve childhood sexual abuse committed under the supervision of a non-profit organization nominally dedicated to providing behavioral healthcare and support to adults and children with developmental disabilities. Unfortunately, inappropriate sexual contact and abuse often go unnoticed when they occur on the part of medical professionals. Our child sexual abuse lawyers take a firm stand on cases such as these and are doing everything in our power to pursue justice on behalf of those affected by these malicious acts.
Our initial filing of 13 survivors who experienced sexual abuse as minors was the largest survivor group lawsuit filed against Devereux to date. Case details reveal a history of systemic abuse inflicted by multiple Devereux employees. Instead of taking action to fix the abusive culture within the organization and help victims, Devereux has chosen to sweep its crimes under the rug. Subsequent to our initial lawsuit filing, we have since filed additional lawsuits against Devereux and its affiliates.
Sex trafficking is a crime that involves using force, fraud, or coercion to make individuals sell sex through pornography or prostitution. Victims often live in deplorable conditions and are regularly subject to violence. In many cases, victims might not be aware that they are victims due to the manipulative tactics employed by sex traffickers.
According to the International Labor Organization, 3.8 million adults and 1.0 million children are trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation, making sex trafficking a problem that is much more pervasive than the general public is aware of. If you or someone you know has been a victim of sex trafficking, reach out to the proper authorities or a crisis center near you. Then, contact TopDog Law for a free consultation with a local attorney who has your best interests at heart.
At TopDogLaw, we understand that the trauma of sexual abuse extends far beyond the incident itself, leaving scars that can last a lifetime. This deeply personal violation can have profound and long-lasting effects, disrupting lives, relationships, and overall well-being.
Sexual abuse often leaves victims grappling with severe emotional distress. Long-term psychological effects may include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and a range of other mental health disorders. Victims might also experience difficulties with trust, forming relationships, and intimacy.
Sexual abuse involving other types of violence can result in many types of injuries in victims. However, the physical repercussions of sexual assault and abuse can extend far beyond the immediate harm. Victims of sexual abuse may suffer long-term effects such as chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, unwanted pregnancy, and sexual health problems. Additionally, some survivors may struggle with sleep disorders or other stress-related conditions.
Behavioral consequences are also common among survivors of sexual abuse. These might include self-harming behaviors, substance abuse, and eating disorders. Child sexual abuse victims may also have trouble with academic performance, which can affect their career outlooks later in life. Those who suffer sex abuse while employed may struggle to earn a living due to ongoing emotional distress and concentration difficulties.
Survivors of sexual abuse often face social challenges as well. They might struggle with feelings of isolation, stigmatization, or shame. These feelings can disrupt their personal relationships and lead to difficulties in forming new ones.
We believe that every survivor of sexual abuse deserves justice and the chance to heal. While we understand that no amount of compensation can erase the trauma, it can provide the means to access necessary therapeutic services and support recovery. Our network of dedicated sexual abuse lawyers is ready to stand by your side, help you navigate the legal system, advocate for your rights, and seek the compensation you need to rebuild your life. The statute of limitations for sexual abuse is two years from the date of the incident for civil cases. For a victim of child sexual abuse, the statute is more complicated, but generally speaking, survivors have until they are 30 years old. Recently, the statute of limitations has been extended to give child survivors even longer to file sexual abuse claims, due to the fact that they may not have had the opportunity to have done so when the abuse occurred.
