Statute of Limitations: 3 years from the date of the negligent act OR 1 year from discovery of the injury — whichever is later (Wis. Stat. § 893.55(1m)). File within whichever deadline gives you more time.

Mandatory Mediation: Wisconsin requires you to request mediation before or within 15 days of filing a malpractice lawsuit (Wis. Stat. § 655.44). Filing the mediation request tolls the statute of limitations.
Damages Cap: Non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases are capped at $750,000 (Wis. Stat. § 893.55(4)). Economic damages — medical bills and lost wages — are not capped.
